Phra Ram is the king of Ayutthaya. He is the reincarnation of Vishnu, known as Phra Narai in Thailand. On the request of his stepmother, Kaiyaket, who wants her own son to be king, King Tosarot banishes his son, Phra Ram into the forest for 14 years. The evil king Tosakanth kidnapped Phra Ram's wife Sida, and thus the Ramakien tells of Phra Ram's adventures and misadventures on his quest to rescue her.
